Tydings & Rosenberg Congratulates Maria Ellena Chavez-Ruark and L. Content McLaughlin
Maria Ellena Chavez-Ruark and L. Content McLaughlin, partners at Tydings & Rosenberg LLP, have been named to Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 2009. The award recognizes one hundred of Maryland’s leading women who are making an impact on our state through their outstanding achievements. These women will be honored at an awards reception on May 11, 2009.
Bill Carrier, the firm’s managing partner, stated “Maria and Content are leaders, both in the profession and in the community. We are pleased that they are being recognized publicly for their many accomplishments.”
Ms. Chavez-Ruark is a partner in the firm’s Bankruptcy/Creditors’ Rights Department. She has extensive experience representing clients in complex creditors’ rights and commercial litigation cases.
Ms. Chavez-Ruark has served as chair of the Baltimore Chapter of the Bankruptcy Bar Association of Maryland and is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Hispanic National Bar Association, and the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association, as well as an officer or director for several non-profit community organizations.
In 2006, Ms. Chavez-Ruark won Educator of the Year Award from Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS). MVLS is the state’s largest provider of pro bono civil legal assistance and annually recognizes volunteers who have devoted themselves in an outstanding and meritorious way to pro bono activities on behalf of the organization.
Ms. McLaughlin is a partner in the Corporate, Business and Tax, and Estates and Trusts Departments. Ms. McLaughlin’s practice includes assisting businesses in handling their extraordinary and day-to-day legal problems, and advising clients with complex planning and transfer of wealth issues.
Ms. McLaughlin has been an active volunteer and leader in community and civic affairs. She has served as a member of Baltimore CASH Campaign (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope), General Federation of Women’s Clubs, aand Maryland Volunteer Lawyer’s Service and its Volunteer Return Preparation Program. She currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of Lawyer’s Campaign Against Hunger, the Advisory Board of Women’s Wine and Dine, and the Board of Directors of the Giving Spirits Foundation. She is also involved in the Dean’s Advisory Council, the Alumni Society, and serves as co-chair of the Student Alumni Employer Relations Committee of the University of Baltimore, Yale Gordon College of Liberal Arts.
Ms. McLaughlin is a recipient of the H. Mebane Turner Service Award from the University of Baltimore in 2007 and 2008 and a member of Phi Alpha Theta (History Honor Society). In 2009, she was named one of Maryland’s Rising Stars by Maryland SuperLawyers and listed in the January 2009 issue of Baltimore Magazine.
